A complication is an unexpected event post surgery or when a condition that may be pre existing causes the patient to receive treatment that is unexpected.  For example, patient is  asthmatic but needs more than normal medication and receives a nebuliser.  Treatment must be in the form of a diagnostic test (where the patient would be transferred), additional or change in medication Another example is where the patient is transferred to another facility after a post operative event.
